How do I know what action to take?

“Put your whole soul and being and life into the act you are performing. In Zen archery your entire being wills the arrow into the bull’s-eye with an invisible force. No matter how small the task, you have to teach yourself that it matters.” ~ Zen Principle

Ok. You know that taking action is an important step in manifesting your desires. But you are confused as to where to begin, right?

Don’t worry. This happens to everyone at one point or another.

Do not – repeat – do not take action just to take action. Do not take action to ‘prove’ it to yourself or anyone else that you believe in your dream. Do not take action if it feels like it’s your duty or obligation or because you think you should. Those types of actions will stop your dream from coming!

What? Acting out of the wrong motivation will stop my dream?

Yes! The wrong motivation for action will stop your dream! And come on now, you’ve come so far, with setting those intentions and flowing energy towards your desire… you owe it to yourself and your future self to get this step right.

The first and most important thing to ask when considering what action to take is: what most excites you?

And if the motivation to act out of excitement isn’t readily available to you, that’s ok. It may just take a little finessing. So begin by slowing down. Take some time, get away from email, phone, family, friends, and just be with yourself and your dream.

And think about, and feel about how it will be to create what you desire to create. Imagine for a moment, that you could not fail. No way. No how.

Imagine your success is guaranteed. Stay focused now; don’t let your mind wander.

Knowing that and knowing you do feel like doing something, just not quite sure what it is; what would be the most exciting fun and joyous thing to do right this minute?

That is the thing to do next.

You see, it is our nature as human beings to joyfully create. It is our nature to dream dreams, to act from our highest excitement, and to manifest those dreams.

And the thing that keeps us from doing that is the conditioning we have received that says it’s not possible. Or worse, that if we reach for our dreams we’ll be punished.

Once we are back in alignment with our true nature, and we focus purely and simply upon our dream, we know instantly what would be the most fun to do towards that dream.

So slow down, keep dreaming, and above all else have fun on the way to the receiving. That, after all, is really what it’s all about.

What to Do When ‘Half a Dream’ Comes True

It’s inevitable. You will be faced with ‘half a dream’ come true. You will say, “I created my dream, but…” As in:

I met the man of my dreams… but he’s married.

I was offered a job… but it pays half what I need.

I met a friend who shares my interests… but she lives an hour away.

I finally found a car I love… but I can’t afford it.

This happens a lot. When you think about it, it’s bound to happen. Why? Because

Dreams show up a little at a time.

Sometimes dreams show up all at once, but that is a rarity. Usually you will receive ‘signs’ that your dream is coming before it shows up in its entirety. There are two reasons for this:

  1. It takes a while to direct your flow of energy towards (and not away from) your dream. This is an acquired skill. For every new dream, it takes a while to get your thoughts and emotions (not to mention your beliefs) in alignment with your desire.
  2. Time is a buffer in manifesting on this planet. Time lets you practice creating your reality without hurting yourself (or your reality) too much. Most people have a mix of positive and negative thoughts and emotions. Time keeps the really negative ones from manifesting instantly, such as “Oh my God I thought I was going to die when that truck came so close!” If you didn’t have time, you would have died.

Dreams seldom manifest in one big, happy package. They take time. The better you get at this, the less time they will take, but they will always take some time.

One of the best things you can do to become better at conscious creating, is to understand this fact and not be disappointed when you receive ‘half the dream’. Because you see, half the dream isn’t really half the dream at all; it’s a ‘sign’ that the whole dream is on its way.

Don’t be like most people

The way most people handle ‘signs’ like the ones above is to focus on what isn’t there.

I still don’t have a relationship.

I still don’t have enough money.

I still don’t have a friend next door.

I still don’t have the car I love.

How should you respond? By taking the ‘sign’ as a sign you are closer than ever! That might sound something like this:

Oh my gosh! I met the most wonderful man… he must not have been the one I’m creating because he’s not available, but I created him in my world! I must be getting closer to my relationship! Hooray!

Yay! I am flowing energy towards a job that pays well and look what happened! I received a job offer! Yeah, so what that it isn’t exactly what I want yet? I’m celebrating that I created a wonderful sign that it is on its way!

I love this new friend! Yeah, she’s further away than I had hoped, but who knows what will happen next? Maybe she’ll move closer? Maybe I will? Maybe I’ll meet someone I like as well or better who lives next door! It’s exciting creating my reality!

I am so excited I found the perfect car! A month ago I didn’t think one existed, yet here it is. Now to add an ingredient to this dream – affordable! Maybe more money will come in or another car will show up like this one for less… either way I’m so happy that my magic is working!

It will take some practice to always respond to your reality in ways that support your dream, but you can get really good at this. And its fun watching the signs arrive while you’re flowing energy for the whole enchilada!

Let the half dreams redirect the whole ones!

Sometimes the signs you receive will cause you to refine your dream or even entice a brand new dream.

An example from my world:

I was focusing on creating money some years ago, at a time in my life when money was a huge struggle. Here’s what happened:

  • I created a fun job doing interesting work… but the pay was terribly low. So I focused a little more energy towards being financially secure.
  • Within weeks, I was offered a full time job with good pay… but the drive was too long – so I turned down the job and focused on feeling free as well as prosperous.
  • A few days later the job offer was amended allowing me to work 3-4 days from home and to work hours which allowed me to avoid traffic.  This was ideal for a while… but then I decided I wanted more responsibility and more authority. I began to dream and focus energy on that.
  • Sure enough, within a month I was offered a promotion, a raise, and given many accolades… but I longed for my own company so I would have unlimited opportunity for abundance and freedom; and I began to dream this too.
  • A few months later the company announced it would be closing and my hours were cut in half (gasp… this wasn’t what I wanted – or was it?). I kept my focus – joy, prosperity, freedom, responsibility, autonomy, etc. I was determined no matter how my reality looked, I was ultimately moving in the direction of my dream. Sure enough, within days my boss and I were given the company I used to work for. My dream had come true to be my own boss… but I was back to very little money again. You know the drill… I put more focus on prosperity, joy, fun, etc.
  • The focus worked. The company grew… but my new partner and I had different visions. My dream had grown and so had I. I was at a new level, and needed to dream again. I began to focus on owning it all myself – the joy, the freedom, the fun, the challenge, the creativity, the autonomy.
  • Just six months after opening our own company my partner made me an offer – and although I was still broke, I managed to buy her out. I owned 100% of a thriving company that would gross nearly $5 million just a few years later.

It really is your choice

There will always be a choice as to how to respond to your world when your reality seems less than ideal.  If you can train yourself to respond with hope, excitement, positivity and genuine expectation that the ‘sign’ just put you closer to your dream, you will find it easier, more elegant and more fun to consciously create your world.

Breaking the Cycle of Scarcity

Hi Boni,

My husband and I are in the agricultural business. We recently moved to a very, very remote ranch. This move meant living in a location we both loved, but it also meant that I had to quit my job.

For 6 months now, I have been trying to find something I can do from home to create an income for myself. I even fell for a scam that cost me 77 precious dollars. I am constantly worried about money. And I know that is the wrong way to think.

But, I can’t shake the worry. I want so badly to have an income, but I really don’t know what to do to get one. And I don’t know how to stop thinking about money.

I’ve read and reread The Secret and The Power. And I want to read The Magic, but can’t buy it. I don’t want to say it, “I can’t afford it,” but…I can’t. How do I get myself out of the money funk?

Signed,
Afraid My Fear is Hurting My Reality

Dear Afraid,

I absolutely know how you feel. I’ve been there myself. There is nothing more petrifying than imagining you will never have enough money (other than maybe worrying you will never have enough health).

And when you know your thoughts and emotions are powerful reality creators it becomes even scarier. But that is the good news.

You are aware of the power of your thoughts and feelings. That is reason to celebrate! It really is up to you and you are open and (hopefully) excited to shift and change.

It happened to me too

I was very much in the boat you are in – minus the husband and rural location. I had no job. I had to move from my home because it was being foreclosed upon.

I didn’t know what to do or where money would come from. Every time the phone rang I cringed, thinking it was a creditor demanding payment. I pictured myself homeless, penniless and having to move in with friends or family. Every day was awful – living in that emotional state.

So, how did I break the cycle of scarcity? First, I took an…

Emotional time out

I was sick and tired of being so unhappy. I decided I would rather be a happy bag lady than an unhappy anything. I was fed up with letting money (or the lack of it) ruin my life.

“I’m over it,” I decided. And cold turkey, I stopped worrying about money.

Now this goes against what most of us have been taught – if we care about something, we worry about it. But worry never helps (and actually hurts). And realizing that combined with being emotionally worn out helped me to let it go.

And you know what? It was wonderful. It was the first time I actually chose joy, especially when there was clearly so much to worry about. It liberated me. My reality wasn’t in control of my happiness. I was.

ow I hadn’t stopped worrying in order to create money, I had stopped because it felt so bad. But once I was in joy, I thought, “Why not try to consciously create some money? It can’t get much worse than it is, so what do I have to lose?”

And that is when I began to…

Create the day

Every morning I would wake up and sit for 5 minutes, to Create My Day. I would close my eyes, and imagine myself in a beautiful place. My beautiful place was an outside café, on a river inFrance. I sat at a round table, with my Higher Self, my Subconscious Mind (personified), and my Future Self (the future me who was tremendously successful and prosperous).

And I told them about what I wanted them to help me create that day. I said, “Today I want to feel prosperous!” and I felt for them, what prosperous felt like. “And I also want to feel joy today and here is what joy feels like.” And I felt joy for them.

I also wanted to feel excited, creative, abundant, worthy, helpful, positively surprised, hopeful, productive and I wanted to have fun! I felt all those feelings for them. Why? Because often times we’ve been less than clear about our intentions.

We say we want joy but we settle for worry, for instance. We say we want prosperity but we receive scarcity. And the universe may not be so clear about what we mean. We say one thing and we accept another – our subconscious mind begins to think ‘our’ abundant means lack. So I emotionally spelled it out.

Plus, it’s the emotion, tied to the thought, which brings the reality.

And at the end of the day, I would take stock. Had I receive reasons to feel these ways? If yes, I would thank my unseen friends for their help. If no, I’d have another little sit-down and explain, “Ok, I ordered prosperity for today but I received an unexpected bill, so let’s go over again what prosperity feels like.” And I would feel it – fully and deeply.

This technique was great fun. I also practiced:

The anti-worry technique

Any time anything happened in my life around money, I forced myself to anti-worry. If I got bills, I filed them without thought as to how I would pay them. And if my mind did go there, I decided somehow, they would get paid. No biggie.

And when I received any abundance whatsoever, I would feel gratitude. That’s when the technique really shined!

I took a job as a temp (in your location, Afraid, that might translate to a virtual assistant) just two days a week in order to get some energy flowing (remember taking action is part of The Map). My first paycheck was $164.36. My rent was $1000. You do the math.

But instead of lamenting about there not being enough, I took that check in my hands, sat down on my bed, and said, “This is $164.36 that I created! I am $164.36 richer than I was yesterday. I made this happen in my life. If I can create one dollar I can create $100, or $1000 or $10,000. I am abundant. Thank you universe and my unseen friends for helping me create and receive this!”

And I felt as much gratitude as I could possibly squeeze out.

And little by little, my life began to change

It wasn’t long… just a matter of weeks, and I was offered a job by one of the companies I temped for. It wasn’t on my terms so I said no. And then they made me an offer that was on my terms. And I accepted.

I continued to practice “Create the Day” because it was working so well for me.  It helped me deal with working with demands that seemed overwhelming at times.

If I found myself stressed out instead of having fun at work, I would take a break, even if it were just to the restroom. I would send a request to my unseen friends saying, “I intend to feel joy, please help me to feel it,” and “Remember this is what joy feels like…” and I would feel it. Like magic, it worked.

Two years later I found myself offered a job as vice president of a new marketing company and six months later, when they closed their doors, I was given the opportunity to continue it as my own company.

An accident? No. Luck? No. Just the universe at work as always.

The real Secret is –

You don’t need to know what to do, or even what to expect! You don’t need to know where the money is coming from, or how it will find its way to you. You only need to emotionally feel abundant, free, secure, prosperous, safe, – all the states of being that having money offers. The universe will handle the details.

What else did I do?

I changed whatever beliefs seemed to be in the way. For you Afraid, you may have a belief that says, “I can’t make good money in this rural area.” If you do, change it. I have posted some resources to help you in case you don’t know how.

And any time you come to a roadblock, for instance if a technique isn’t working for you, or you want to discover what is holding you back, ask for help. Your unseen friends are waiting to help, but must be asked.

Above all else, have fun with this Afraid. It’s about the journey, remember?

Much love and in joyous creation,
